A Night in an Igloo

This past weekend we spent a chilly night at the top of a mountain in Davos, Switzerland with 7 great friends. It was a really fun experience although I don't know if I would do it again any time. However, waking up in the mountains with the beautiful view was nothing short of breath taking.

The igloo is huge with a restaurant room, bar room, bathroom, and many sleeping rooms. There is a sauna out back as well, which was a saving grace from the cold. It was about -5 degrees C inside the igloo and much chillier outside. There was NO HEAT of any kind in the igloo and no doors. We went snow shoeing down and then back up the mountain and enjoyed the stars and moonlight. It was a nice way to warm up and also walk off the fondue dinner.

More great scenery. This is the top of a ski hill in Davos (site of the World Economic Forum every year), so the lifts and runs surround the igloo.

Here are a few pictures of the "restaurant" where we had a delicious fondue dinner and a couple shots of Kirshe (cherry liquor). They have several artists who make carvings in the walls and build interesting designs into the igloo.

The "romantic igloo suite" - the most expensive room, had a private bathroom, pillows, champagne, and a jacuzzi with a skylight. Needless to say, we did not have these things :)
